The government have a comprehensive land registry database. This not only gives you up to date information on property values in different areas, it tells you lots of extra information about individual properties such as:
- Who owns the property
- If there's a mortgage on the property
- If the property is affected by rights of way
- The price of a property if it was sold after April 2000
